Scheffler Seeks Rare Repeat

After winning at Quail Hollow, Scheffler returned to his home base for the Charles Schwab Challenge, which he was looking to win for the first time.

That wait will continue into next season, as he finished four strokes behind tournament winner Ben Griffin. That was good for a tie for fourth and a $427,500 payday, but other than the first 11 holes in his third round, which he blitzed through at 7-under, he likely would not have been satisfied with his performance.

At Muirfield Village, Scheffler will be looking to become just the second repeat winner in the Memorial Tournament, which has been held since 1976 and celebrates its 50th edition this year. The only current repeat winner, unsurprisingly, is Tiger Woods, who took home the trophy in 1999, 2000, and 2001.

For Griffin, the win moves him closer to serious contention for the U.S. team for this year’s Ryder Cup. He moved from 18th to 13th in the rankings, bumping him past Daniel Berger, Tony Finau, Tom Hoge, Lucas Glover, and U.S. Ryder Cup team captain Keegan Bradley. After finishing tied for eighth at the PGA Championship and winning the first solo event of his PGA Tour career, he will be hoping to continue his ascendance into the mix this week.

The victory at Colonial impacted Griffin’s Memorial odds, but he is not considered one of the top contenders to win the tournament. In addition to Scheffler, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, and two-time tournament winner Patrick Cantlay are the consensus top five favorites at three of the best online sportsbooks for golf betting.

Memorial Tournament Predictions and Picks

Tournament Winner Pick: Scottie Scheffler

Scheffler was not quite at his best last week, but it was still good enough to record two eagles during the week and finish in a tie for fourth, just four strokes away from the tournament winner. Look for him to be back at his best this week.

Patrick Cantlay to finish in the top 10 (+130 at BetOnline)

Cantlay, a Memorial winner in 2019 and 2021, is one of seven golfers to win the tournament multiple times. He may or may not contend this week, but a top-20 finish is a very reasonable expectation. In the first six signature events this season, Cantlay has two top-five finishes and four top-ten finishes.

Si Woo Kim to finish in the top 20 (+120 at BetOnline)

Kim has two top tens and four top 20s in six signature events this season, and in his last five solo stroke play events, he has finished tied for eighth, tied for 15th, tied for 17th, tied for eighth, and tied for 28th. Had even just a couple of holes gone better at Colonial, he would have logged a fifth consecutive top-20 finish. Look for him to put together another decent result at the Memorial.

Sepp Straka to finish in the top 20 (+125 at BetOnline)

Straka has been one of the standout performers in signature events this season. He won the Truist Championship earlier this month and has two top fives, three top tens, and five top 20s in six signature events in 2025. Look for a third straight top-20 finish at the Memorial after finishing tied for 16th in 2023 and tied for fifth last year.

Ben Griffin to finish in the top 20 (+140 at BetOnline)

It has been a good couple of weeks for Griffin, collecting $2.1 million for his PGA Championship and Charles Schwab Challenge results. Can he make it three good weeks in a row? He most certainly can. He missed the cut in this tournament in 2023 and 2024, but he will be around for the weekend this time.
