Genesis Scottish Open Predictions and Picks

Tournament Winner Pick: Robert MacIntyre

Prior to MacIntyre’s win last year, only one Scotsman (Colin Montgomerie in 1999) had won the Scottish Open.

This year, can he become the first repeat winner in tournament history? Only two players (three-time winner Ian Woosnam and two-time winner Ernie Els) have won the Scottish Open multiple times, but you have to like MacIntyre’s chances to become the third.

He finished a stroke behind McIlroy in 2023, then won the tournament by a stroke over Adam Scott last year.

His season in the U.S. has had its ups and downs, but he finished runner-up at the U.S. Open last month and followed that by tying for 17th at the Travelers Championship the next week. That is just the second instance this season that MacIntyre has finished in the top 20 in consecutive tournaments.

Only five Americans have won the Genesis Scottish Open, with Xander Schauffele (2022) the lone American winner in the six previous instances in which it was held at the Renaissance Club. That doesn’t particularly mean much, but it does make the top non-Americans in the field worth a long look this week, starting with MacIntyre.

Tommy Fleetwood to finish in the top 20 (+100 at BetOnline)

In his most recent tournament, Fleetwood experienced a heartbreak akin to Rory McIlroy’s at the 2024 U.S. Open. With three holes left at the Travelers Championship, Fleetwood was on the verge of his first PGA Tour victory. But he bogeyed 16 and 18 to lose out to Keegan Bradley, who won the tournament with a birdie on the 72nd hole.

That had to be a crushing blow for Fleetwood, but he can take solace from the fact that he is having a rather solid season overall.

He has yet to win, but he has four top-five finishes and nine top-20 finishes in 14 tournaments, including six top-20 finishes in the seven signature events he played.

That is encouraging for how he should perform among a strong Genesis Scottish Open field. This is a pretty conservative play with reward being prioritized over risk, but if you want to spice things up a little, back him for a top-10 finish as well (+215 at BetOnline). He has two such finishes in this tournament, a tie for sixth in 2023 and a tie for fourth in 2022.

Xander Schauffele to finish in the top 20 (+115 at BetOnline)

It’s hard not to feel like missing two months threw Schauffele’s season off, though perhaps his results this season could also be at least somewhat attributed to the pressure of trying to follow up winning two majors in 2024.

Whatever it is, he has only one top-10 finish in 11 tournaments this season.

But he won the Genesis Scottish Open in 2023 and has three top-20 finishes in four appearances, which augurs well for his chances to contend or at least card a solid score this week. As with Fleetwood, taking the top-20 finish is a safe play, but a top-10 finish (+250 at BetOnline) is also a good value play with his history at this course in mind.

Corey Conners to finish in the top 20 (+175 at BetOnline)

Conners withdrew from the U.S. Open after 54 holes, and he finished tied for 25th (Memorial Tournament) and tied for 27th (RBC Canadian Open) in the two tournaments before his withdrawal at Oakmont.

But he has also had a decent year, posting five top-10 finishes and eight top-20 finishes in 15 tournaments, including a tie for eighth at the Masters.

This should be another solid week for the Canadian, who tied for 10th in last year’s Genesis Scottish Open and tied for 19th in 2023.
