In the 21st century, dominance has been a frequent feature in Formula 1. Most recently, the dominant force has been Max Verstappen, who has won four consecutive World Drivers’ Championship titles.
However, it appears that run may end this season. With more than a third of the 2025 F1 season in the rearview mirror, the McLaren duo of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris have put some distance between themselves and the four-time defending champion in both the points standings and World Drivers’ Championship winner odds.

2025 F1 World Drivers’ Championship Favorites
This season’s World Drivers’ Championship race looks to be a three-man tangle for the title.
Verstappen entered this season looking to join Michael Schumacher as the only two drivers in Formula 1 history to win five consecutive titles.
Much of the season remains still, but as it stands, his drive for five looks likely to come up short of the finish line.
After winning the team’s first World Constructors’ Championship since 1998 last season, a first World Drivers’ Championship victory since 2008 is inching closer by the race for McLaren.
Will it be Piastri, or will it be Norris? Time will tell if the team allows them to fight it out or if one driver’s title quest will be prioritized, but after winning five of the first nine races, Piastri holds the advantage over Norris, last season’s runner-up.
