Last weekend, the tussle at the top of the Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship standings took a shift as four-time defending champion Max Verstappen came up just short in his quest for a magnificent Monaco Grand Prix win. Last Sunday, Verstappen stayed out as late as he could to try to make his lead stand up, but he had to pit on the penultimate lap of the 78-lap race. That allowed polesitter Lando Norris to move to the front and take his second win of the season.
As a result, Norris is now only three points behind McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, who finished third in the race, at the top of the Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship standings.
Piastri is poised to put a bit of space between himself and Norris in this race and in the standings, as the Australian claimed his fourth pole of the season yesterday. And with his prime position on the starting grid, Piastri is the man to beat in Barcelona, according to oddsmakers.

In the first four races of the season, getting the best of the field in qualifying served as a precursor to the same outcome occurring in the race. After Norris opened the season by winning the Australian Grand Prix from pole, Piastri collected two wins from pole in China and Bahrain and Verstappen won from pole in Japan.
Then came a three-race dry spell for polesitters at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Miami Grand Prix, and Emilia Romagna Grand Prix before Norris, although he left it late, followed his Monaco pole with a victory in the principality.
If Piastri does pick up his fifth win of the season today, he will erase at least most of what Norris gained last week. While the World Constructors’ Championship appears almost 99 percent certain to be retained by McLaren, the same cannot be said for the World Drivers’ championship, which may not be decided until the end of the season.

Spanish Grand Prix Predictions and Picks
Last week’s picks went two for two, thanks to Norris getting the win and Lewis Hamilton overcoming a three-place grid penalty to finish safely inside the top six.
Both of those plays had a decent bit of juice, and we will take the juice with the Spanish Grand Prix winner pick this week as well. Piastri converted two of his three previous poles this season to wins, and he will convert this one to a win as well.
The other Formula 1 picks for this week are in a different direction, however.
Alexander Albon has finished in the points in all but one race this season and has four straight points finishes since his 12th-place result at the Bahrain Grand Prix. Will his run continue today? He only qualified 11th, but he will land in the top ten yet again. The best value for that bet can be found at BetOnline, where the Williams driver is -125 to finish in the points.
The other pick for this week is for Nico Hulkenberg to finish higher than Gabriel Bortoleto.
