Can Verstappen Revive His Drive for Five?
Last Sunday was Red Bull’s home race, the Austrian Grand Prix. And it could not have been more disastrous for both Verstappen and Red Bull as a whole.
After only qualifying seventh, Verstappen’s race lasted only mere moments. Kimi Antonelli’s brakes locked up as he went into Turn 3 at the Red Bull Ring, and he ran into Verstappen, sending him off of the track and out of the race.
It was Verstappen’s first retirement since the 2024 Australian Grand Prix, and with teammate Yuki Tsunoda finishing 16th, Red Bull went without a point for the first time since the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix.
With McLaren teammates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri finishing first and second, Verstappen went from 43 to 61 points behind Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship leader Piastri, and he is now 46 points behind Norris, who picked up his third win of the season.
There are a lot of races left on the calendar, but is it too early to say that Verstappen’s season is in trouble if he is unable to make the most of his British Grand Prix pole?
With McLaren’s dominance to date, it is not a premature statement. Were it not for Norris’s continued penchant for mistakes, he would be out in front and with an even larger lead than Piastri. But as it is, it will take some doing to overtake the two McLaren drivers.
So, it is vital that Verstappen does not let this opportunity slip. But with Piastri starting second and Norris third, the four-time defending champion will likely be under pressure from the start.

Formula 1 British Grand Prix Predictions and Picks
Oscar Piastri to win the British Grand Prix
Verstappen won from pole at the Japanese Grand Prix, but on the other two occasions he started at the front this season, he finished second behind Piastri at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and fourth behind Piastri, Norris, and George Russell in Miami.
Prior to this season, Verstappen had won from pole 32 times in 40 attempts (80%). Thirty-three in 43 attempts (76.7%) is still an outstanding conversion rate, but it has taken a hit this season with Piastri the standout driver on the grid to this point.
Piastri won the next race after each of Norris’s first two wins this season, and it is a sound bet that he makes it three in three. He was still plenty fast in qualifying, and if he doesn’t encounter any issues, he will push for top spot on the podium.
Lewis Hamilton to finish on the podium (+120 at Bovada)
In last year’s British Grand Prix, Hamilton delighted the home crowd with his 105th and most recent Formula 1 win. With that memorable result, he has finished on the podium in this race 14 of 18 times. To date, the only times he has failed to make the top three are 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2013.
After matching his best finish of the season with a fourth-place showing in Austria, Hamilton qualified fifth at Silverstone, one of his best results in a Ferrari. He’s still finding his groove, but his favorite race would be the perfect place to pick up his first podium with his new team. These odds are a steal at Bovada compared to some other sites.
Alex Albon to finish in the top 10 (+275 at Bovada)
Albon finished in the points seven times in the first eight races this season, but that decent start has come to a screeching halt. For the first time in his Formula 1 career, Albon has retired in three consecutive races.
However, that stretch could end at Silverstone, where he has two points finishes in three races for Williams.
