UCLA vs. LSU Prediction and Picks
In their wins on Saturday, both UCLA and LSU put runs on the board early and made them stand up.
The Bruins scored one run in the first, one in the second, and four in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead, then withstood a Murray State rally for a 6-4 win over the Racers.
The Tigers, meanwhile, chased Arkansas ace Zach Root with three runs in the second inning and rode seven strong innings by Kade Anderson to a 4-1 win over the Razorbacks.
LSU has a clear advantage with tonight’s mound matchup, which pits California native and childhood UCLA fan Anthony Eyanson (11-2, 2.74 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, .211 OBA, 124 K/35 BB in 98.2 IP) against Landon Stump (6-1, 4.54 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, .250 OBA, 62 K/37 BB in 73.1 IP).
Eyanson did not have his best outing in a Super Regional matchup against West Virginia, but the UC San Diego transfer has had consecutive subpar starts only once this season.
While LSU will be looking for Eyanson to go deep, UCLA will likely turn to its bullpen early. Stump has gone more than five innings only three times in 17 starts this season and has gone fewer than five in 10 starts.
UCLA has a deep, talented bullpen, but they used five relievers against Murray State after ace Michael Barnett exited after 4.2 innings. In fact, of their best relievers (by ERA), the only one that they didn’t use was Cal Randall (2-1, 3.09 ERA).
LSU’s edge with starting pitching gives them the edge over UCLA. The moneyline and run line have no real value, but there is value in taking the under in what should be a lower-scoring game.
