Arkansas vs. Murray State Prediction and Picks
The Razorbacks had the misfortune of facing the toughest draw of the four opening games, as they and LSU went into Omaha as the top-two title favorites.
That draw meant a matchup with Kade Anderson, a potential top-five pick in next month’s MLB Draft. The Razorbacks countered with their own ace, Zach Root, but while Anderson silenced one of college baseball’s best lineups in a standout seven-inning showing, Root failed to make it out of the second inning of the 4-1 loss, as he allowed three runs, two hits, and two walks in 1.2 innings.
So, here we are again, with yet another supremely talented Arkansas team staring at ending the season without the ultimate prize.
To stay alive for at least one more day, the Razorbacks will have to see off the Racers, who fell into a six-run hole against UCLA and couldn’t quite make it out in a 6-4 loss.
This might very well be the worst possible opponent for Arkansas to face with its season on the line.
They are a team with everything to lose playing a team with nothing to lose. And with the Hogs’ history of heartbreak, it would be negligent to not toss a few coins on the Murray State moneyline, even if you think Arkansas will win.
Were this game in Fayetteville, the over would be a very easy play here. But even at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, the over is still the play. Pitching is not the strength for either of these teams.
Arkansas should avoid elimination, but don’t write-off the Racers. A win would certainly be an upset, but it would not be a surprise.
