Blue Bombers vs. Elks CFL Week 19 Prediction & Picks (10/11): Three Straight Ws for Winnipeg?

Winnipeg Blue Bombers running back Brady Oliveira (#20) - Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs. Edmonton Elks CFL Week 19 Prediction & Picks (10/11)

It has been an up and down season for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, but things appear to be on the up and up as they enter the business end of the campaign. And if the Blue Bombers can win vs. the Edmonton Elks today (7:00 p.m. ET, CFL+), they will be headed back to the playoffs for the ninth consecutive season.

After upsetting the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Week 17, the Elks (6-9) still harbor slim hopes of crashing the postseason party, as both the Blue Bombers (8-7) and Calgary Stampeders (8-7) can still be passed in the standings.

But no less than a win today will keep hope alive for the Elks, who have won five of their last eight games after a 1-6 start to the season.

That includes three consecutive home wins, but a fourth would appear to be a tall task. That is because the Blue Bombers have won 13 straight games against the Elks dating back to a 33-24 Edmonton win at Commonwealth Stadium on November 3, 2018.

A 14th straight victory will extinguish Edmonton’s playoff hopes and ensure that Winnipeg will be in the bracket, either as one of the three West Division teams or as the crossover team into the East Division.

Will Winnipeg extend its run of dominance against Edmonton and lock up a postseason berth today? Read on for our Blue Bombers vs. Elks prediction and picks, as well as the best odds from top online sportsbooks such as BetOnline.

Blue Bombers vs. Elks Prediction and Picks

Prediction: Blue Bombers to win

This year, the Grey Cup is being held in Winnipeg for the first time since 2015 and just the fifth time ever. And after making five consecutive appearances in the championship clash, the Blue Bombers would have entered this season with high hopes of becoming the first team to win the Grey Cup at home since the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2013.

A 3-0 start would have added even more fuel to those hopes, but for much of the season since, the outlook for that has not been particularly favorable. But as we approach the final stretch of the regular season, are the Blue Bombers finally finding their feet?

A 26-18 win at Ottawa in Week 16 would not have moved the needle much at all, given that the Redblacks are the worst team in the league. But a 40-3 destruction of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Week 17 certainly would have, as it was arguably Winnipeg’s most complete performance of the season.

Can the Blue Bombers produce another complete performance vs. the Elks? One of their better performances this season came against Edmonton in Week 4, when they outscored the Elks 13-0 in the fourth quarter in a 36-23 win at Princess Auto Stadium.

Until two weeks ago, that was Zach Collaros’s high point of the season, as he was 25 for 30 for 334 yards and three touchdown passes (plus a touchdown run) in the win.

Against Hamilton in Week 17, Collaros eclipsed that number by going 20 for 25 with 367 yards as Winnipeg put up 514 total yards.

The Blue Bombers likely won’t need to put up 500+ yards vs. the Elks, but a 14th consecutive win over Edmonton is in the forecast for Winnipeg.

Blue Bombers vs. Elks Picks

1) Blue Bombers -3 vs. Elks (-110 at BetOnline)

History only means so much, but it’s hard to see Edmonton bringing the streak to an end today, even if this has been a so-so season for Winnipeg.

The Week 4 victory vs. the Elks is an example of how the Blue Bombers are a much better team with a healthy Collaros. A healthy Collaros means Nic Demski and Winnipeg’s receivers get to show their stuff, and it also means a much more balanced and dangerous offensive attack.

The Elks have been quite impressive against the Stampeders and Roughriders in their last two home wins, but both of those teams have seen their standard of play drop in recent weeks. That does not take away from Edmonton’s wins, but they are getting the Blue Bombers at a different point than they got either of those two teams.

2) Pokey Wilson Over 64.5 Receiving Yards (-115 at Lucky Rebel)

After logging 71 catches for 1,026 yards and three scores with the Blue Bombers last season, Wilson spent time in NFL camp with the New York Jets this year before being waived in August.

He returned to Winnipeg and signed an extension through next season, and it was like he never left, as he caught five passes for 89 yards and a touchdown in his first game back.

Wilson has gone over this number in three of his first four games since returning to Winnipeg, and a fourth in five games should be in the cards for today’s Blue Bombers vs. Elks matchup. Nic Demski is still the top target for Collaros, but Wilson can knock this out in just a few catches. That’s what happened against the Tiger-Cats, as he hauled in three passes for 97 yards, including a 56-yarder.
