Tiger-Cats vs. Roughriders Prediction and Picks

Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell

The Week 2 matchup between the Ti-Cats and Riders at Tim Hortons Field was an even contest, and both teams had a decent day offensively. In the end, the visitors left Hamilton victorious after making KeeSean Johnson’s go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter stand up.

That loss dropped Hamilton to 0-2, and it looked like another losing campaign could be ahead.

However, that was the last loss for the Tiger-Cats until their six-game win streak agonizingly ended last week in overtime to the BC Lions. Receiver Tim White coughed up the ball on the second play of Hamilton’s overtime possession, opening the door for the Lions to win with a field goal on their OT possession.

White’s fumble was certainly very costly, but it wasn’t the biggest culprit. That would be the defense, which has bent quite a bit in recent weeks but broke against BC. That unit allowed 527 yards, offsetting another 300-yard game by Bo Levi Mitchell, and couldn’t preserve a 35-31 lead in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.

Ultimately, Hamilton’s defensive deficiencies could make or break their chances to hoist the Grey Cup for the first time since 1999. It will also likely be what makes the difference in today’s Tiger-Cats vs. Roughriders matchup.

Mitchell should have another productive day even against one of the league’s better defenses, but Riders QB Trevor Harris, who entered Week 11 as the league’s leader in QB rating and has completed 75.2% of his passes, should have a field day at home.

Take the Riders to cover and improve to 4-1 at home, and take the over in what should be a fairly high scoring game.
