Stampeders vs. Tiger-Cats CFL Week 19 Prediction & Picks (10/11): East Title in Sight for Ticats

Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell - Calgary Stampeders vs. Hamilton Tiger-Cats CFL Week 19 Prediction & Picks (10/11)

Davis Alexander and the Montreal Alouettes are on the charge, but while they are sure to be a threat in the playoffs, their late-season surge looks set to be too little, too late to win the CFL East Division title. With a win vs. the Calgary Stampeders (3:00 p.m. ET, CFL+), the Hamilton Tiger-Cats will secure their first division crown since 2021.

The Ticats (10-6) took the division lead all to themselves in the middle of the season, and they have remained atop the standings since. The Alouettes (8-7) have tried to make things interesting by winning three straight games, but with a win over the Stampeders, the Ticats will lock up the division and a bye through to an East Final at home. Even if the two teams finish 11-7, Hamilton owns the head-to-head tiebreaker against Montreal, as they swept the regular season series between the two teams.

The Stampeders (8-7) will head into their matchup vs. the Tiger-Cats hoping to spoil a potentially celebratory day at Tim Hortons Field, and they will also be hoping to get themselves back on track.

At one point, they looked like a serious threat to the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the West Division. Now, they are in a tight race with the BC Lions (9-7) and Winnipeg Blue Bombers (8-7) for second in the West. Coming out on the short end in that battle will mean either a trip to Vancouver or Winnipeg as the third-place team in the West or a trek to Montreal as the crossover team in the East.

Neither of those scenarios is ideal, but can Calgary right the ship in time to avoid them? Read on for our Stampeders vs. Tiger-Cats prediction and picks, which are accompanied by the best odds from top online sportsbooks such as BetOnline.

Stampeders vs. Tiger-Cats Prediction and Picks

Prediction: Tiger-Cats to win

The Stampeders won their first three road games this season as a part of a 5-1 start, but they have come up empty-handed in each of their last four road trips.

In fact, they have not won on the road since Week 7. When they won 41-20 at Winnipeg on July 18, it seemed like the Stampeders were one of the top Grey Cup favorites.

Now, they look like anything but that. Not only have the Stampeders lost four straight, all four losses have been by double digits. And in those four losses, they gave up 31, 52, 38, and 38 points and looked nothing like the team that owned the Blue Bombers and Roughriders both home and away earlier this season.

It’s hard to feel like things will somehow improve for the Stampeders vs. the Tiger-Cats, either.

Calgary’s season started with a 38-26 win over Hamilton at McMahon Stadium, and at one point it looked like the start of something special.

It still very well could be a special season for the Stampeders, but after finding the going tough against the Elks, Alouettes, and Lions (twice) in recent weeks, the outlook is not an optimistic one for a matchup against Bo Levi Mitchell and the Ticats.

The Ticats are a handful or two of plays in close losses to the Roughriders, Lions, and Toronto Argonauts from being a perfect 7-0 at home and the best record in the CFL.

Their affinity for giving their fans an emotional experience is why some might question their Grey Cup credentials. But make no mistake about it, this is a heck of a team, and they will show it again today against the struggling Stampeders.

Stampeders vs. Tiger-Cats Picks

1) Tiger-Cats -3 vs. Stampeders (-118 at BetOnline)

If there is a positive for the Stampeders, it is that they did not give up last week at BC. They trailed 31-9 entering the fourth quarter but pulled within 31-24 with five minutes left with two touchdowns, and after a quick stop, moved the ball close to midfield. But Vernon Adams Jr.’s third pick of the night ended the drive, and the Lions shut the door three plays later with Zander Horvath’s 33-yard touchdown run with a minute left.

Adams threw for 300 yards for the first time since Week 10 and had two touchdown passes for the first time since Week 12. But it was his third multi-interception game in his last six games, and in his last three games, he has twice as many picks (six) as touchdown passes (three).

That is not ideal form to be in with the Stampeders heading into a road game vs. the Tiger-Cats. That is because the Ticats entered Week 19 tied atop the league in interceptions (21), first in takeaways (37), first in points off turnovers (125), and first in pass efficiency.

In addition to Calgary’s issues on offense, the Stampeders are being overrun defensively. Last week, they gave up 500+ yards to the Lions for the second time in three games, allowed nearly 450 yards (including 350 passing yards) against the Alouettes, and surrendered nearly 400 yards (including 245 rushing yards) against the Elks, who are dead last in the league in yards per game.

With Bo Levi Mitchell being Bo Levi Mitchell and Greg Bell racking up the yards (550 rushing yards in his last five games), the Tiger-Cats should have a successful Saturday vs. the Stampeders and cover the spread in the process.

2) Tiger-Cats Team Total Over 29.5 Points (-144 at Lucky Rebel)

The Ticats are averaging 30.4 PPG at home and 32.5 PPG in their wins this season, and they have scored 30+ points four times at home and six times in wins this season.

As wild and wacky as the CFL can be at times, it’s entirely possible that this will be the game that Calgary gets it together offensively and defensively. But based on how things line up, the Tiger-Cats should have no problem hitting the 30-point mark vs. the Stampeders.
