Roughriders vs. Stampeders CFL Week 12 Prediction & Picks (8/23): Can Calgary Slow the Riders’ Roll?

Calgary Stampeders quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. - Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Calgary Stampeders CFL Week 12 Prediction & Picks (8/23/2025)

To this point of the Canadian Football League season, the Saskatchewan Roughriders have separated itself from the pack of potential Grey Cup contenders. Tonight, the Calgary Stampeders, the lone team to solve the Roughriders thus far, get a crack at showing that they should be considered in the same breath as. Tonight’s Roughriders vs. Stampeders matchup at McMahon Stadium (7:00 p.m. ET, CFL+) is a fitting finale for CFL Week 12, as it pits the two best teams in the league for what could and should be a real barnburner.

Entering tonight’s game, Saskatchewan (8-1) has a two-game advantage over Calgary (6-3) in the West Division. But the Stampeders already own a 24-10 win over the Roughriders in Regina in Week 6, and a win in the rematch will give Calgary a season sweep and the tiebreaker advantage for the division title if the two teams end up tied.

Can Saskatchewan get the season split and increase its lead in the division ahead of a double dip against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers? Read on for our Roughriders vs. Stampeders prediction and picks to find out the best bets for this must-see matchup and which top online sportsbooks offer the best odds for those bets.

Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Calgary Stampeders Odds

Roughriders vs. Stampeders Prediction and Picks

When these two teams met at Mosaic Stadium in Week 6, Riders QB Trevor Harris set season highs in completions (36), attempts (44), and yards (425). But Saskatchewan’s offense managed only one touchdown and one field goal and failed to make the most of the defense’s three takeaways, two of which came on Calgary’s first two possessions of the game.

Since that loss, the Riders have won four consecutive games to take control of the West Division. Their last two wins were extremely impressive, as they outscored the Montreal Alouettes and Hamilton Tiger-Cats 63-15 combined.

Now the Roughriders take their perfect road record into McMahon Stadium for tonight’s matchup vs. the Stampeders, who have alternated wins and losses at home thus far.

Calgary, who was off in Week 11, is certainly a much more dangerous team with a healthy Vernon Adams Jr., who was 28 for 36 for 428 yards and three touchdowns in the win in Regina.

Last time out, Adams was 17 for 24 for 300 yards and two touchdowns in the Stampeders’ 28-27 win over the Blue Bombers in Week 10. Since starting the season with zero touchdown passes and three interceptions in his first three games, Adams has 11 touchdowns and three interceptions in his last five games.

Last Five Games for Calgary Stampeders QB Vernon Adams Jr.

  • vs. Winnipeg (Week 10): 17 for 24, 300 yards, 2 TD
  • vs. Montreal (Week 8): 15 for 25, 193 yards, TD
  • at Winnipeg (Week 7): 16 for 24, 287 yards, 3 TD, INT
  • at Saskatchewan (Week 6): 28 for 36, 428 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT
  • vs. Winnipeg (Week 5): 13 for 18, 222 yards, 2 TD

Adams will be without a couple of key receivers in Dominique Rhymes and former Rider Tevin Jones, but he will resume his connection with #1 overall pick Damien Alford (13 catches, 307 yards, 5 TD). Alford has not played since Week 8 due to a hamstring injury. Even after missing three games and having a minimal impact in his first three games this season, the rookie out of Utah is still among the league leaders in touchdown catches with five.

Though they only combined for 34 points in the first Roughriders vs. Stampeders matchup, they also combined for nearly 1,000 yards of total offense in that contest.

With that in mind, I like the prospect of a fairly high-scoring game tonight in Calgary. If that does occur, it is worth noting that the Roughriders are 7-0 when scoring 28 or more points, while the Stampeders are 5-0 when hitting that mark. I give Saskatchewan a slight edge whether we have a shootout or a slugfest, but this will be the lone spread I don’t touch this week.
