The first several weeks of the 2025 CFL season have been tough for the Toronto Argonauts, but after an upset win vs. the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in their first meeting since last season’s Grey Cup, the defending champions should have a nice boost of confidence heading into their next game.
That next game happens to be a swift rematch with the Blue Bombers, this time in Winnipeg. Can the Argos bag back-to-back upsets within a week? Streveler Set for Rare Start Against Argonauts
Like the Calgary Stampeders, who were without Vernon Adams Jr. for last night’s ugly loss at Ottawa, the Blue Bombers will be without their starting QB tonight at home as they look to end a three-game losing streak.
After playing only a quarter and a half in Week 7 against Calgary due to a potential concussion, Zach Collaros started last Saturday’s game and had an ineffective first half (5 for 10, 79 yards, 2 INT) before being sidelined for the entire second half.
Chris Streveler, who started (and won) the season opener against the BC Lions because of Collaros’s suspension for missing an offseason drug test, wasn’t particularly successful against either the Stampeders in Week 7 or the Argonauts in Week 8. As noted in our CFL Week 9 preview, Streveler’s 14 possessions against Toronto and Calgary resulted in only two scoring drives.
But with Collaros ruled out this week, Streveler will draw his 15th career CFL start, all of which have come with the Blue Bombers. He is 6-8 as a starter, but he is 2-0 in his second stint with Winnipeg, which came following time in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals and New York Jets. Along with this season’s win over the Lions, he started and won against the Ottawa Redblacks in Week 5 last season.

Argonauts vs. Blue Bombers Prediction and Picks
While Streveler struggled in his sub stints in the last two weeks, he was solid in his season-opening start against BC, completing 15 of 24 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns.
He will be under some pressure to perform, but he has some experience and success in the league. He isn’t in the same position as Calgary’s P.J. Walker, who made his first CFL start last night and hadn’t received any notable gametime prior to last week.
While the Argonauts are also without their starting QB, they are dealing with less stress than the Blue Bombers for the moment.
Yes, Chad Kelly, who has missed the entire season to date, is now on the six-game injured list. But Nick Arbuckle had a real confidence-boosting performance in last week’s win, going 22 for 31 for 316 yards and two scores and no interceptions.
Since scoring 10 and 19 points against the Alouettes and Stampeders to start the season, the Argos have been pretty productive. In their last five games, they have scored 25+ points in every game and 30+ points three times. In this stretch, they are averaging 31.0 PPG.
With the Blue Bombers giving up a lot of points in each of their last three games (even with defensive touchdowns excluded), the over on the Argonauts’ team total tonight should cash no matter the result.
Can Streveler get it done? His results in relief are disappointing, but he is experienced and won’t be shaken. It may well be in defeat, but we should at least see more from Winnipeg’s offense tonight. Avoid any sides and focus on the totals.
Argonauts vs. Blue Bombers Prediction: Blue Bombers to win
Argonauts vs. Blue Bombers Picks: 1) Argonauts team total over 23.5 (-125 at Bovada) 2) Argonauts/Blue Bombers over 50
